Custom throttle body Conversion Kit – Plug & Play Solution for 03–07 GM Trucks
Say goodbye to unreliable X-Link adapters and reduced engine power warnings! Our Custom TAC Module Kit offers a true plug-and-play solution for converting your Gen III 3-bolt throttle body to any Gen IV 4-bolt (87mm+) throttle body, without the headaches.
✅ What’s Included:
- Custom GM TAC module
- Plug-and-play harness (installs in minutes – just like an X-Link, but without the problematic intermediate module)
✅ Key Features:
- Simple Installation: Just three 10mm nuts mount the TAC module to the driver-side firewall. For 2006–2007 Classic model trucks, a 2003–2005 gas pedal and pedal harness is required (available separately).
- No More Soldering or Splicing: Our kit eliminates the need to modify your wiring or rely on finicky adapters.
- No Reduced Power or Check Engine Lights: Designed to maintain full functionality and drivability with upgraded throttle bodies.
- Cleaner, More Reliable Setup: Purpose-built harness and OEM-style integration.
🧠 Why This Kit Matters
GM’s “8-wire” drive-by-wire setup used between 2003–2006/07 introduced a unique throttle position sensor (TPS) behavior: one TPS ran from 0–100%, while the second ran from 20–80%. This non-standard signal made throttle body swaps extremely problematic and incompatible with most Gen IV throttles. Many enthusiasts turned to X-Link adapters, but those solutions are often temperamental, error-prone, and require carrying a code reader just to limp home.
Our kit addresses this directly with an OEM TAC module that communicates properly with newer 4-bolt throttle bodies—no funky signals, no limp mode surprises.
🔧 Vehicle Compatibility:
Works with 2003–2007 GM trucks and SUVs equipped with the “8-wire” drive-by-wire system:
- Silverado / Sierra
- Tahoe / Yukon / Suburban
- Avalanche / Hummer H2
- Envoy / Trailblazer
⚠️ Notes & Disclaimers:
- Throttle Body Condition Matters: Aftermarket throttle bodies or units with worn electronics may cause issues like immediate reduced power mode. Always start with a known-good OEM or high-quality unit.
- Cold Weather Note: Some used throttle bodies work fine warm but may fault below 40°F. Junkyard or cheap replacements can be unreliable.
- This is a safety-critical system. We make no guarantees regarding safety and assume no liability. Use at your own risk.
🔧 Tuning Tips:
- Most factory ECUs work without retuning when using LS3 gold blade or 07+ truck throttle bodies.
- For best results, update your ETC Area Scalar—we suggest 0.0330 for 90mm throttle bodies.
- Larger throttle bodies alter airflow/TPS response. Consider adjusting shift points accordingly.
- The LS3 gold blade throttle body may over-rotate at WOT. If you experience reduced power at full throttle, cap rotation to 96%. (Silver blades don’t have this issue.)
✅ Throttle Bodies Tested & Working:
- LS3 Gold Blade
- 07+ Gen IV Truck Throttle Body – Mostly reliable, but test cold behavior.
- FAST 102mm (FST-54104) – Works even with hall-effect sensors.
- Dorman LS2 (977-820) – Works using our wiring diagram.
- Nick Williams 120mm – Confirmed functional.
🔍 Testing Before Install:
Before bolting down the new throttle body:
- Leave the stock throttle body connected.
- Place the new unit on top of the intake (not bolted).
- Plug in the TAC module and new throttle body.
-
Turn the key to “On” (do not start).
- The throttle should snap shut, then slightly open.
- Pedal input should smoothly open the blade to 100%.
- No “Reduced Engine Power” messages = success!
